Winter Truck Driving Tips

Winter Truck Driving Tips

It’s that time of the year again when temperatures drop, snow and ice consume the roads, and an extra dose of alertness and preparation is needed from all drivers! Rest assured, we will provide you with tips, tricks, and product recommendations to keep you safe during this winter season.

RelaDyne is committed to a safety-first mindset! We encourage all drivers to be defensive drivers.

  • Refrain from making aggressive decisions, especially on snow-covered, icy roads.
  • Be aware for any drivers in your vicinity that are speeding, swerving, or distracted.
  • Give yourself a little more space between you and the car in front of you, and brake early.
  • Think ahead and anticipate hazards so you can avoid accidents before they happen.

Making the intention to follow these simple yet effective tips before every commute will help keep yourself and others around you safe on the road.

Maintain Sufficient Windshield Washer Fluid Levels & Regularly Inspect Wiper Blades

During the winter, you will catch yourself using more windshield washer fluid than normal because of the poor visibility due to residue created by snow and ice. Double check before your commute how much fluid you have. You don’t want to run out mid-travel! Check out our DuraMAX Washer Fluid, available in various temperature grades.

The rule of thumb when it comes to your wiper blades is to replace them every six months. Dirt can collect on the windshield creating small tears on the edge of the blade that are not obvious to the naked eye, causing streaking and smearing on the windshield, resulting in low visibility and an environment for unsafe driving conditions.

Stay proactive and order your new wiper blades now! Check out our premium DuraMAX Wiper Blades.

Beware of Black Ice

Stay vigilant on the weather and highway reports prior to traveling, as Black Ice will form in frigid temperatures due to the heat of tires on the road combined with the freezing conditions. Black Ice appears typically on less traveled roads without much sunshine. If you experience driving over a patch of Black Ice, it’s importance to remain calm. Keep the steering wheel straight, and do NOT hit the brakes. Deaccelerate by removing your foot off the gas instead.

Use the Correct Antifreeze for Harsh Weather Conditions

RelaDyne offers an impressive variety of antifreeze and coolants for ultimate temperature protection. Our various coolant mixes meet or exceed the Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEM) recommendations of antifreeze intervals preferred by your equipment to maintain optimal operating temperatures during cold (or hot) weather conditions. Visit our Coolants/Antifreeze page to find out which antifreeze or coolant is best for your needs.

Winter traveling is inconvenient, but not impossible! Sticking to these tips and products will give you an extra layer of protection when on the roads this season.
